FootPod is a foot controlled MP3 player that I created for a segment in my course where we were studying the use of sensors. We were given 4 weeks and the assignment of creating a MP3 player that could only be manipulated with the foot. In order to accomplish this we had to first learn the language Lingo, and how to use Adobe Director. Then came the wiring and wrapping our minds around using pressure mats. My three teammates and I collaborated and decided our target audience would be children.
With this in mind, we created a bright and silly interface that played only nursery rhymes. The volume knob was a water bottle that could be turned with the foot to adjust how loud the song played. The idea of this project was not to make something pretty, but to deliver on a concept when we had no prior knowledge of the technology or language. My favorite part was when we demonstrated FootPod, and everyone in my course had to sing "If You're Happy and You Know It". This taught me that all my friends were tone deaf.
